Television and its impact on life

Television has brought new breath to the life of people.  The inception of cable TV has spread that breath to millions home in every corner of the world. Today, television and cable service technology have been influencing people’s lives like never seen before. If asked will you give up watching TV forever for one million dollars, there are only 25% of Americans in the survey group answered “Yes” in a survey conducted years ago.  In another survey when asked what make you happy, 80% of men say it is a plasma TV.  Some studies show that on average people spend about three hours daily on watching TV.  North American people spend about 4.5 hours in front of the TV and are outplayed by the Japanese who watch TV for 5 hours on average.  Averaging out if we spend four hours watching TV on daily basis we will end up spending a total of 10 years of watching TV within 60 years of life.  There 5 billions people on earth and there are about 2 billions TV devices ready to serve.  On average nearly two people share one TV. Quite a number to consider!

Like any addiction, TV can be easily addicted.  A study shows if a viewer spends to much time in front of a TV he will shows craving symptoms and neglects his social and family life, which ultimately lead to obesity and illness.

That being said TV does have its positive side. Through TV we can find out about other countries, or people or cultures that we will not otherwise know where to learn. We can travel on TV to visit anywhere from safari jungle to north pole or south pole, as well as go up to the moon or down to the bottom of the ocean.  Thanks to TV programs we learn more about history, cultures, current events and even cooking.  TV is a useful didactic tool which can be entertaining, educational and influential depending on how we use it.

With the invention and interference of cable service, there is high demand of more and interesting programs so that television can be run 24/7 meeting all interests and tastes of almost every single individual in a society.  Most common attraction that TV produces are sex and violence related which seem addresses the majority and keeps the viewers interested and desire for more. TV producers now bring TV into all high new level by stimulating viewers with extremes, shocks and special effect movies.  As a result viewers may develop tolerance towards such stimulations instead of immunization. If viewers are juveniles there may be some negative impact on their growing up.  Scientist and psychiatrists in fact suggest parents to keep their children of 3 years of age and below away from TV. Because this is the period when their brain develops and to have them grow perfectly children must play and interact with real people and real experiences to develop physical strengths and behavioral skills. Children aged 6 to 12 tend to get addicted to cartoons, which adversely have some negative impact on them, sometimes causing their negligence from studying.
